British Wrestling Federation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The British Wrestling Federation (BWF) is a professional wrestling promotion in the United Kingdom.

The name itself has been used as public front for various promoters of wrestling from the 1980's until the present. The name is mainly associated with "Tribute Act Wrestlers", who dress and perform in the style of wrestlers who are generally considered to be famous amongst the United States promotions World Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment. Over the years, regardless of who has used the name BWF, they have received legal threats and action from major promotions in the United States.

The BWF has displayed some of Britain's best known wrestlers like Shirley Crabtree (later known as Big Daddy) his arch-nemesis, Giant Haystacks. Both were weighed to be around 600 lb a piece and considered the two main stars of the promotion. Haystacks and Crabtree feuded for years in this promotion and others.

Many titles were defended within the promotion but the two main titles were the British Heavyweight Championship, and the European Heavyweight Championship; both of which were held by Crabtree at one point.
