Broome Community College

Broome Community College is a SUNY two-year college in Broome County, New York. The college was founded in 1946 and went through several name changes. The school is currently located in Binghamton, New York. The college had a 2005 enrollment of slightly over 6200 students and has alumni of over 30,000.

BCC serves students primarily from the Greater Binghamton area, including those from Broome, Tioga, Delaware, and Chenango Counties.

BCC serves students from a single campus on Upper Front Street in Binghamton, New York, though some classes are taught in Owego, New York at a small classroom center. The campus' 15 buildings comprise 610,000 square feet of space, and feature recently upgraded athletic facilitites such as baseball fields, publicly accessible tennis courts, the Dick Baldwin Gym, named after the second winningest college basketball coach across both two and four year colleges behind Jerry Tarkanian, and a new ice rink.

The current president of BCC is Dr. Laurence D. Spraggs.


  • 1946. Established as New York State Institute of Applied Arts & Sciences at Binghamton (with "New York State" sometimes abbreviated "NYS").
  • 1953. Became Broome County Technical Institute.
  • 1956. Became Broome Technical Community College.
  • 1957. Moved to new campus in Upper Front Street (NY Route 11).
  • 1971. Name changed to Broome Community College.
