Bruno Tattaglia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bruno Tattaglia is a fictional character appearing in Mario Puzo's novel The Godfather and the first installment of the The Godfather trilogy of films. He was portrayed by actor Tony Giorgio.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Bruno was son and underboss to Philip Tattaglia, head of one of New York's Five Families. Along with business partner Virgil Sollozzo, he struck the first blow in the war with the Corleone family by helping murder Corleone enforcer Luca Brasi, who had met with Bruno to try and infiltrate the rival faction. However, the family's attempts on the life of Don Vito Corleone were less successful, and as the Don convalesced acting boss Sonny Corleone had his men assassinate Bruno in the small hours in revenge. The death was instrumental in prompting Dons Tattaglia and Corleone to seek an end to their conflict.

Bruno's death is not seen in the film (although Sal Tessio says "We hit Bruno Tattaglia at 4 a.m.), but in The Godfather: The Game, (which stars a character not in the books or films) he is tossed into an oven by the unnamed protagonist for murdering his girlfriend.

Spoilers end here.
