On Monday August 29th at 8:45 am CHIQ - Q-94 announced that after 25 years that it would no longer exist and that a new station would be created within a seven day time span based on comments provided by listeners.[1] Prior to the announcement, the regular morning staff had not shown up for work (midday host Troy Scott covered) leaving many to speculate that they knew ahead of time of the change and did not want to announce their own demise. A later report debunked that theory for the interim.[2]

Common throughout Q-94's history is the use of coffee mugs. These were distributed to a selected "Office of the Day". The contest was open to office workers by simply sending in a fax requesting to be selected. The morning show dj's of Beau, Tom and Dez would then announce which office they would visit and present the mugs too along with other prizes.

"Money Magnets" were used in the 1990' and discontinued at around the turn of the century in favour of a contest called "Beat the Bank". The Money Magnet contest consisted of business card size magnets that were distributed to the public for free. They were imprinted with a number. Throughout a broadcast day numbers would be called out. If the listener heard their number called they were given a half hour to call the station and claim their prize. If no call was made after the allotted time, a new number would be called.

The new Beat the Bank format was most likely implemented to save costs for producing a magnet as the new contest only requires listeners to call when there is a designated prompt played on the station and a caller is selected at random to play the game live.
