Carpathian Basin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Carpathian Basin or Pannonian Basin is a name used for the geographical area in Central Europe surrounded by the Carpathian mountains. Carpathian Basin include Pannonian Plain together with Transylvanian Plateau and the Lučenec-Košice Depression (both parts of the Carpathians) and some other lowlands as well.
The word Carpathian Basin (named like this because of the long Carpathian border) has been translated from Hungarian literature, while the South Slavic languages (Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian and Macedonian) use the term Pannonian Basin. [1] In English, Carpathian Basin is more frequently used.
