Casket match
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Casket Match is a type of match in professional wrestling closely linked to the gimmick of The Undertaker. To win the match, all that must be done is to ensure the opponent is in the casket and the lid is shut; everything else is legal.

- The first Casket Match between the Undertaker and Kamala was unique as the rules apparently stated the winner would be the man who pinned his opponent. He then won the right to put his opponent in the casket and nail it shut.
- The Undertaker has competed in 13 different Casket Matches, with a record of 8 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie. Other notable records include Kane, with 1-0-1, Yokozuna, with 1-1, and Triple H, with 0-3.
- Triple H was in all of the Casket Matches that did not include the Undertaker, and lost all of them.
- The years 1995 and 1999 share the record for most Casket Matches in one year, at 3 each.
- WrestleMania 22 was the first WrestleMania to have a Casket Match on the card.
- Royal Rumble and RAW tie for the events with the most Casket Matches, both with 3.
- During the Casket Match at the 1998 Royal Rumble, Shawn Michaels suffered a serious back injury after landing on the edge of the casket. Three months later, the injury would force him into a four year hiatus from in-ring activity.
- There have been two handicap Casket Matches in history. Both were won by the two man team.
- The oldest and youngest competitor in a Casket Match were in the same match. 'Cowboy' Bob Orton, 54, and Randy Orton, 25, were also the first father and son to compete in a Casket Match. This occurred at No Mercy 2005.
- A regular-sized casket has surprisingly only been used twice in the 14-year history of the Casket Match. A larger casket has been used in the majority of matches, mainly due to the match featuring larger wrestlers (Yokozuna and Mark Henry, for example) or a team (The Ortons).
- Triple H initially was thought to have defeated Mideon and Viscera by delivering the pedigree to Mideon and placing him in the casket. However, it was then revealed that he had to place both Mideon and Viscera in the casket at the same time in order to win. This made it impossible for him to win, as there was no way the massive Viscera would fit in a regular-sized casket, let alone on top of Mideon.
- WWE/F titles have been defended 3 times in Casket Matches, all of them successfully: Yokozuna's WWF Championship at Royal Rumble 1994, Goldust's Intercontinental Championship, at In Your House: Beware of the Dog II, and Shawn Michaels' WWF Championship at Royal Rumble 1998. All 3 matches were against The Undertaker.
- Chuck Norris served as the special ringside enforcer for the Casket Match at Survivor Series 1994 between The Undertaker and Yokozuna. This was to prevent a repeat of the mass interference that cost The Undertaker a Casket Match against Yokozuna at Royal Rumble 1994.
- Kane has interfered in two of Undertaker's Casket Matches on his brother's behalf. Both incidents occurred at a Royal Rumble event (at the 1998 and 2005 Royal Rumble). However, on one occasion he helped him (2005) and on the other he "screwed" him (1998) (in 1998 he chokeslammed the Undertaker in the casket and set it alight, whereas in 2005 he interfered to fight off an interfering Snitsky).
