Center for Global Development

The Center for Global Development (CGD) is a think tank focused on reducing global poverty and inequality, headquartered in Washington, D.C..

CGD was founded in November 2001 by Edward W. Scott, Jr., C. Fred Bergsten and Nancy Birdsall. Scott was the founder of BEA Systems and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Assistant Secretary for Administration in the Department of Transportation. Bergsten is the director of the Peterson Institute. Birdsall, the former head of the World Bank research department and executive vice president of the Inter-American Development Bank, became CGD’s first president. Prominent researchers and affiliates include Kemal Derviş, William Easterly, and Michael Kremer.
