Changi Village
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Changi Village (Chinese: 樟宜村) is a village at the north-eastern end of Singapore. There are only two busy spots there: a ferry terminal leading to the north-eastern Islands (e.g. Pulau Ubin), as well as the hawker centre, famous for the long queues at the nasi lemak stall. There is also a People's Association Sea Sports Club that offers kayaking courses and rentals. The area is also rumoured to be popular with transsexuals, who can be seen around the carpark area beside the hawker centre just past midnight. The Government recently pledged in 2005 that they would try to revive the ghost town. Many people living in the nearby estates of Pasir Ris, Tampines and Simei drive to Changi Village for some drinks in the evening. Many of the coffeeshops are opened till past midnight everyday.
There is a walkway to the nearby Changi Beach, where many families gather over the weekend for a nice picnic with a view of the nearby islands.
Changi Village Hotel - Le Meridien, re-opened after a complete refurbishment, is located in the vicinity.
