While investigating a murder at Magic School, Paige and Agent Brody are sucked into an unfinished novel written twenty years ago by two students. They suddenly find themselves in a 1930s film noir, where they are chased by gangsters in pursuit of the famed Burmese Falcon. With no way to escape, Paige and Brody must help Eddie Mullen, the missing young author of the novel, learn to be a hero so the story can end. Back at Magic School, Phoebe, Piper and Leo try to rescue Paige and Brody by writing plot twists into the pages of the novel. Meanwhile, Phoebe tries to help Leo win Piper back, but Piper is still struggling with her feelings.

Avatars
Avatars first appeared in the Season five episode Sam I Am and returned in Centennial Charmed (The one hundredth Episode). They wanted Cole Turner to become an Avatar, but it was too late when Cole was vanquished. They recently became major recurring characters. After they achieved their goal of getting Leo to help get the world to become a "Utopia" They are indirectly to blame for the deaths of Cole Turner.

  • The episode title Noir refers to a genre of film – usually black and white, with use of shadow and light to represent the concealing and revealing of truths etc.
  • The WB also used the episode title Charmed Confidential in advertising.
  • The classic car used in this episode by Paige and Brody formerly belonged to Joe Kennedy (father of former US President John F. Kennedy) who reportedly had several affairs with Hollywood actress Gloria Swanson in the very same car. Actress Rose McGowan confirmed this story in an interview with TV Guide.
  • This episode pays homage to the classic film The Maltese Falcon.
  • This is the first episode in which Paige orbed someone by hand, without going with them, much like Leo can.
  • This is the first time Paige and Kyle kiss.
  • When Kyle is shot, Something flys onto the Top-right part of the screen.
  • When Paige asks Kyle if she looks like Lana Turner, he says "Right out of The Postman Always Rings Twice, the good version". Kyle saying "The good version" was unnecessary because Lana Turner was only in one version.

  • French: Roman noir (A Noir Novel)
  • Spanish: El negro blanco (The Black and White)
  • German: Der burmesische Falke (The Burmese falcon)
