Chelsy Davy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chelsy Yvonne Davy (born 13 October 1985 in Harare, Zimbabwe) is the current girlfriend of Prince Harry. The two were first photographed together holidaying on Bazaruto Island, Mozambique in December 2004.[1] Reports at the time indicated that, when the photographs were released, the couple had already been together for eight months.[2]
She was educated at Girls College Bulawayo, Cheltenham College, Stowe School and the University of Cape Town, from which she graduated in November 2006 with a degree in Economics. Davy, who wanted to be a model growing up, currently lives in her father's gated villa in Cape Town, where she is frequently photographed and followed by eager reporters. The most frequent reports are of her driving around in her silver Mercedes-Benz, partying at clubs, and shopping.[3] She will begin a postgraduate in Politics at the University of Bristol in Autumn 2007. Between graduating from the University of Cape Town and enrolling at the University of Bristol, she is traveling the world with her parents and brother Shaun. She spent much of February 2007 traveling the US and was present at Super Bowl XLI in Miami[citation needed].

Prince Harry and Davy were first photographed together in November 2004 on an Argentinian polo ranch, although their relationship is said to have started in the spring of that year. In his 21st birthday interview, Prince Harry said "I would love to tell everyone how amazing she is but once I start talking about that, I have left myself open".[4] Harry's elder brother, Prince William, was supposedly tricked into telling a downtown tabloid journalist that Harry and Davy are "very much in love" on a skiing holiday in 2005. Incidentally, this was the same holiday on which Harry was first accused of cheating.[3]
When Davy visited Prince Harry in April 2006 to attend his passing out ball at Sandhurst Military Academy, she was met at London Heathrow Airport by four armed guards who escorted her through the airport.[5]
Harry lives in England and Davy in South Africa, the two have been able to see each other only occasionally. Chelsy will be moving to England next year to attend the university, however, their relationship will suffer further separation as Harry will be deployed to Iraq in May 2007 for six months, during Chelsy's Autumn term.
Davy is most often mentioned in the English press as being angry at Harry for his various antics. In April 2006, she supposedly became upset at reports of him going to a strip club.[5] In June 2006, Harry was spotted with Natalie Pinkham, an old flame. As Pinkham was leaving a friend's apartment building after a late night, she called out to Harry for him to give her a kiss. He told her he couldn't kiss her outside and she returned into the building, leading to speculation that the two kissed there. The pair were thought to be unaware of the hiding photographers outside.[6]
In addition to the Pinkham incident, several other accusations of cheating were made during June and July 2006. The Daily Mail reported that a drunken Harry hit on Georgina Downie at the Boujis nightclub only minutes after Davy had left.[7] A masseuse, a Page Three girl, and a single mother all told papers that Prince Harry had either kissed or attempted to kiss them. The Daily Mail quoted an anonymous friend of Davy's as saying "Chelsy is very angry. This new woman has upset her all over again. She warned Harry enough is enough." Nevertheless, all seemed fine with the couple when Davy turned out to watch Harry play polo on July 16.[8]
Davy's father, millionaire safari operator in Zimbabwe, Charles Davy, has come under fire for supposed ties with the dictator Robert Mugabe. He owns the company HHK Safaris, which controls five hunting concessions and fifteen camps. Hunting licences in Zimbabwe are given out at the discretion of Mugabe's regime, with no transparent process.[9] In June 2005, Charles Davy spoke to The Daily Telegraph about his business partnership with Webster Shamu, an MP in Mugabe's Zanu-PF party. "I am in business with Mr Shamu and have been for five years", said Davy. "We have an excellent and honest business partnership. Why should this change? I am in business not politics." He also claimed that he had been hurt by Mugabe's land grabbing and had been forced to give up 140,000 acres to the government.[10] Despite his interview with The Telegraph, articles about Chelsy Davy will still occasionally mention her father's ties with the government of Zimbabwe.[3]
On 11 September 2006, Davy was robbed at gunpoint at a Cape Town restaurant. The thieves posed as five customers and made everyone lie down on the kitchen floor at gun and knifepoint. She was not hurt in the incident.[11]
