Chicago Housing Authority

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chicago Housing Authority is a housing authority focusing on public housing in the city of Chicago. It is regarded as the most ambitious public housing overhaul in the nation’s history. They are assisted by Mayor Richard M. Daley.

CHA has completed 9,400 senior housing projects, helped more than 3,000 residents find jobs through partnerships with city-wide agencies, and almost 2,500 units for families in scattered sites have been renovated and new ground has been broken on several mixed-income developments. Their main focus right now is the Plan for Transportation.

Chief Executive Officer Sharon Gist Gilliam talks about the goals for the current Plan for Transportation: "Entering the eighth year of the Plan, we have made a lot of progress, but we still have work to do: we need to continue our efforts to secure support from the federal government. We need to continue to show businesses the benefits of investment in CHA neighborhoods. And we must continue to show our residents – our family – that the opportunities are available now and the choice is theirs."
