On January 12, 2007, NBC Universal announced its intent to launch a new channel on March 1st, dedicated to the horror genre, which would feature both films and shows.

NBC Universal also stated that, aside from content in their own vaults, Chiller features content from other studios as well, including Lionsgate, Sony, Warner Bros., and 20th Century Fox. [1]

On February 23, 2007 and February 24, 2007, The 101, channel 101 on DIRECTV, aired a preview of Chiller.
