Chitwan District

Chitwan district, a part of Narayani zone, is one of the seventy-five districts of Nepal, a landlocked country of South Asia. The district, with Bharatpur as its district headquarters, covers an area of 2,218 sq km and has a population (2001) of 472,048.
Narayangarh, on the bank of Narayani River, is the main town with numerous shopping zones where people from all over the district and even from neighboring district come to shop.
Chitwan was famous for one horn rhino and mustrad field. But nowadyas both of them are decreasing. Chitwan Ntional Park is unable to protect to the rhinos from poacher. It is the home town of Maoist leaders Prachanda and Badal. Most of the people are originally from other disticts. Chitwan is ahead in educational sector in national arena. Chitwan Ma. Vi., Prembasti Ma. Vi. and Balkumari Schools have long history for quality education in Chitwan. Many almunis of those schools are in abroad and active in different sectors within nation too. Krishna Raj Hamal the ex headmaster of Balkumari High school is the co-author of the high school level English text-book of Nepal, Binod Dhakal, an ex teacher of the same school is an officer in the ministry of education and sports of Nepalese Government. A famous columist of The Kantipur Daily was also the teacher of Balkumari School a long time ago.
