Plot

Many centuries ago, the android Peebo and the Bio Robo came to Earth from the fallen Bio Star. The Bio Robo showered five people with the Bio Particles, which would be passed on to later generations. In the present day, Doctor Man and his Shin Teikoku (New Empire) Gear threaten the world. Peebo must find the descendants of the original five descendants to form the Choudenshi (Super Electron Task Force) Bioman.

Characters

Biomen

  • Shirou Gou (郷史朗 Gō Shirō?) (Kenny in the English dubbed version) / Red One (レッドワン Reddo Wan?) - He is the pilot of the first Japanese space shuttle. Unfortunately, he gets caught in the crossfire just as the Gear begins the invasion. In him, passion and responsibility unite in an unusual combination. He is a little quick-tempered at times. There was one time he was called for marriage but eventually refused because of the mission, where he had to confront Monster in making the samurai sword. Because of the power of the Bio Particles, He is able to speak with animals. He grew up believing that his father was dead. However, after meeting Professor Shibata, even he is not so sure.

  • Shingo Takasugi (高杉真吾 Takasugi Shingo?)(Sammy in the English dubbed version) / Green Two (グリーンツー Gurīn Tsū?) - He is a race car driver. Shingo can be very tough to enemies yet very kind to children, for whom he has a soft spot. Yet despite his bravado, there are times when he doubts his own abilities. Once, he was depressed when a little boy's confidence in him was shattered. Another time, he doubted himself after he quit playing baseball as a high schooler. Yet despite these doubts, He knows what he must do and does them as well as possible. He pretended to be a criminal and ended up having a boy idolize and imitate him. To prove to the boy that crime does not pay, Shingo let himself be beaten up by street thugs while the boy was watching. He is the designated driver of the Bio Turbo. This is natural as he is the best driver on the team. He also break dances and this is incorporated into his attacks. His ancestor who received the Bio Particles was a hunter.
    • Age: 23 years old
    • Weapons: Hurricane Sword (ハリケーンソード Harikēn Sōdo?) and Green Bomerang (グリーンブメラング Gurīn Bumerangu?)

His years of diving have made him very nimble and thus he is very skilled in stealth techniques.
    • Age: 19 years old

However, she is convinced when she realizes that if she does not fight, then even the animals in Africa that she loves will eventually be in danger. For someone who is hesitant to do battle, Mika is a powerful and skilled martial artist. The others were looking for another descendant of the original five who were bombarded with the Bio Particles. However, she proves her courage, and it was also a pleasant surprise to discover that she has Bio Particles. It was thus with great joy that she was presented with a Bio Changer to become the new Yellow Four. Jun has to sacrifice her membership in the Japanese Olympic Archery Team, yet her skills become valuable to the Biomen.
    • Age: 19 years old
    • Weapons: Bio Arrow (バイオアロー Baio Arō?) and Thunder Sword (サンダーソード Sandā Sōdo?)

    • Actress: Sumiko Tanaka
    • Birthday: June 7, 1964
      • Note: The reason for the cast change from episode 10 onwards was that Mika Koizumi's actress, Yuki Yajima, left the Japan Action Club, an action star theater group that was contracted to provide actors for the production of Choudenshi Bioman, after she was asked to work without pay. She refused and decided to leave the show, resulting in her on screen death in episode 10 and subsequent replacement on the show.[citation needed]
  • Hikaru Katsuragi (桂木ひかる Katsuragi Hikaru?) (Kimberly in the English dubbed version) / Pink Five (ピンクファイブ Pinku Faibu?) - A carnival flutist. Sweet yet strong, and a mistress of disguise. An unusually strong spirit yet with a strong motherly instinct. She plays the flute both to calm her spirits and to strengthen her resolve. She is willing to risk her life to save children from a mysterious plague, disguising herself as a nurse (she has a soft spot for nurses) to look at the patients, and later on, risking infection in order to find a cure. She is able to befriend the evil computer Brain and teach it (or him) about friendship, which pays off since Brain sacrifices himself to save the Bioman as well as the world from destruction. (episode 35-36).
  • Professor Shibata (柴田博士 Shibata-hakase?) - A brilliant cybernetics and robotics professor who develops a "conscience circuit". Later revealed to have a dual identity. (episode 43-44, 47-50). Shibata is revealed to be Shirou's biological father.
  • Miki (ミキ Miki?) - A Mecha Clone who was implanted with a connection to the Mecha Gigan Satan Megas, enabling Satan Megas to rebuild itself if destroyed. Because of Professor Shibata's conscience circuit, she self-destructs to enable Satan Megas to be destroyed.

Others

  • Bio Hunter Silver (バイオハンター・シルバ Baio Hantā Shiruba?) (37-50) - A robot from Bio Star programmed to kill anything with the Bio Particles. He was given half of the Bio Particles. He became maniacal and with his robot, Balzion, helped destroy Bio Star. He armed himself with the Nega Bio Energy that killed the original Yellow Four and travelled to Earth to locate and destroy the other group with the Bio Particles; the Bioman. Ironically, his shots weren't able to severely weaken the Biomen like it did with Mika Koizumi presumably that his wasn't a very concentrated form and/or the Biomen have gotten stronger than they used to be with the new bio suits. He is the enemy of both the Bioman and Gear. He was destroyed along with Balzion before the finale, but the Biomen were nonetheless impressed by his courage, and acknowledged him as a worthy adversary.
  • Balzion (バルジオン Barujion?) (48-50) - Silver's giant robot. He refers to it as an ally rather than a vehicle. When re-united, their might even exceeds the Bio Robo's powers, making them a force to cope with. It was briefly stolen by Gear and piloted by Farrah.

Arsenal

  • Techno Braces (テクノブレス Tekuno Buresu?, Bio Verters in the English dubbed version) - The Bioman use these wrist bands to communicate and transform. To transform individually they call their color and number and to transform as a group they call Bioman.
  • Bio Swords (バイオソード Baio Sōdo?, Bio Daggers in the English dubbed version) - Sidearms used in battle which have sword, dagger, and blaster modes.

Team Attacks

Unlike other Super Sentai teams, the Biomen have a variety of finishing moves.

  • Miracle Bomber (ミラクルボンバー Mirakuru Bonbā?) - The Biomen fire an energy shot from their Bio Swords in sword mode.
  • Miracle Laser (ミラクルレーザー Mirakuru Rēzā?, Bio Prism Laser in the English dubbed version) - The Biomen put all their swords put together to fire an elemental beam.
  • Bio Revolver (バイオリボルバー Baio Riborubā?) - The Biomen execute the Bio Kick together.
  • Circus Loop (サーカスループ Sākasu Rūpu?) - The Biomen spin in mid-air and deliver a kick.
  • Bio Electron Beam (バイオエレクトロビーム Baio Erekutoron Bīmu?) - The Biomen fire a blast from thier Bio pistols together at the enemy.

  • Bio Mach 2 (バイオマッハ2号 Baiomahha Nigō?) - The motorcycle of Yellow Four. It is technically a Suzuki dirt bike.
  • Bio Turbo (バイオターボ Baio Tābo?) - The car of Green Two, Blue Three and Pink Five. A modified Mazda RX-7 with its top off and a rotating set of flashing lights. It can go on rough and paved roads.
  • All of these can achieve extreme speeds together and in formation (when Pink Five executes the Super Speed command).

Mecha

The Bio Robo
The Bio Robo
  • Bio Dragon (バイオドラゴン Baio Doragon?) - A carrier ship for Bio Jets One and Two, On the fuselage side, two laser guns are equipped. With its magnetic force crane, it can pick up an inert Bio Robo. It can even transport a fully-formed Bio Robo to the scene of battle.
  • Bio Robo (バイオロボ Baio Robo?) - Coming from the Bio Star 500 years ago, it is the Bio Robo that showers five youths with Bio-particles. In episode 1, it is the Bio Robo that also gathers our five protagonists together, literally picking them up like action figures. It is also semi-sentient, showing fear at the arrival of Silver. It is formed from the two Bio-Jets when the command "Fusion! Hyper Cross!" (合体!ハイパークロス! Gattai! Haipā Kurosu!?) is given. It is armed with the Super-Maser (スーパーメーザー Sūpā Mēzā?) sword and it destroys monsters with its finishing attacks like Concentration (コンセントレーション Konsentorēshon?), Comet Cutter (コメットカッター Kometto Kattā?), Break Attack (ブレイクアタック Bureiku Attaku?), Cross Cut (十文字斬り Jūmonji Kiri?), Great Attack (グレートアタック Gurēto Atakku?), Chainsaw Cutter (チェーンソーカッター Chēnsō Kattā?), Straight Flush (ストレートフラッシュ Sutorēto Furasshu?), Reverse Cross Cut (逆転十文字斬り Gyakuten Jūmonji Kiri?), Pinball Sting (ピンボールスティング Pinbōru Sutingu?), Dashing Beam (ダッシングビーム Dasshingu Bīmu?), Shadow Cutter (シャドウカッター Shadō Kattā?), and Super Flash (スーパーフラッシュ Sūpā Furasshu?). Against later monsters it uses a powered up attack, Bio Particle Cut (バイオ粒子斬り Baio Ryūshi Kiri?).
    • Bio Jet One (バイオジェット1号 Baio Jetto Ichigō?) - It is used by Red One and Pink Five. It is stored in front of Bio Jet Two. It forms the upper half of the Bio Robo. Upon execution of the Fusion Hyper Cross/Bio Integrate command, its rear boosters fold outwards to reveal an area where the Bio Jet 2 will dock and link. The boosters form the forearm and hands of the Bio Robo. The front portion folds to the back to reveal the torso and head of the Bio Robo.
    • Bio Jet Two (バイオジェット2号 Baio Jetto Nigō?) - It is used by three other Biomen. It is stored behind Bio Jet One. It forms the lower half of the Bio Robo. Upon execution of the Fusion Hyper Cross/Bio Integrate command, the tail and wings of the Bio Jet 2 fold back, the lower portion extends and twists and its boosters shoot out to form the feet and legs.

Neo Empire Gear

The Neo Empire Gear (新帝国ギア Shin Teikoku Gia?) was founded and led by the cyborg Doctor Man, from his Neo Grad fortress at the South Pole. After Doctor Man comes the Big Three, Mason, Farrah and Monster, who supervise field missions. The bulk of their forces is composed of five cybernetic monsters known as the Beastnoids, and of generic android soldiers known as the Mecha Clones. Farrah is also assisted by Farrah Cat.

  • Doctor Man (ドクターマン Dokutā Man?) - The supreme ruler of the Neo-Empire. Once human, he was known as Doctor Kageyama before enhancing his intellect and body with cyborg implants which he later apparently become a fully mechanical being. He plans to conquer the world with his army of mecha humans. He has a son named Jun'ichi. In the end, he died redeeming himself to stop the Neo Bomb he intended to destroy the Earth after his real son prodded him with human emotions.
  • Mason (メイスン Meisun?) (1-50) - The leader of the Big Three who once plotted against Doctor Man himself after he found out Doctor Man is a human being and the frequent rival of Red One. He is armed with a staff which fires energy bolts. He is dressed in white battle armor on blue skins. Once thought of himself as Doctor Man's heir apparent (as revealed during the first appearance of the Black Prince) since Doctor Man puts importance in him more than the other two. He was later rebuilt and armed with Mason Rockets and Mason Machine Gun. He is the frequent rival of Red One. He and Farrah seem to have a close relationship together despite being androids and sometimes has a civilian form as a man wearing a business suit which is first shown during the time he was entrusted with the submarine destruction operation. When Farrah died, he stood sadly apparently having feelings for her and decided to avenge Farrah's death even if he should die trying. He challenged Red One for a final duel. He was killed by Silver after his battle with Red One to reclaim Balzion.
  • Farrah (ファラ Fara?) (1-49) - The female member of the Big Three, dressed in a silver battle armor on red skins. She uses beam weapons and leaves the dirty fighting to Farrah Cat. She often disguises herself as human in her schemes. Later rebuilt and armed with Farrah Fire Storm and Farrah Kiss (blows an explosive flying kiss). She later works closely with Mason and usually puts Monster behind as revealed in the episode where she and Mason plotted to steal all the gold reserves though Farrah implemented the mission and Mason did the thinking or where Doctor Man sought to create nega-magnetic soldiers. She died after receiving heavy damage in the battle with the Biomen while piloting Balzion.
  • Monster (モンスター Monsutā?, Fargo in the English dubbed version) (1-48) - He is as strong as a whale and less than half as smart. He likes to work with the monster Beast King a lot. Dressed in a silver, massive full-armor (save for his bald head) and initially armed with a huge axe, he was later upgraded and armed with Black Mace, Iron Paw. Despite being a Mechanoid, one episode reveals that he has a crush on Farrah and dreamed about being married, which Farrah apparently resents the whole idea and Mason being jealous of it suggesting a love triangle. He died while capturing Balzion for Gear.
  • Farrah Cat (ファラキャット Fara Kyatto?) (1-51) - Farrah's bodyguard who does the dirty work. Dressed in black and purple skins, she is is quick, agile and acrobatic. She has claws for weapons and uses twin nunchukus as well. She is Yellow Four's frequent rival. She was the last member of Gear to be killed as Yellow Four and Pink Five blasted her circuits off with a full blast after being wounded by the others.
  • Mecha Clones (メカクローン Mekakurōn?) - The foot soldiers of the empire in black with silver heads and red eyes. They can be programmed to pilot Mecha Drones or act as laboratory assistants. Some were however more powerful than the others. Others were designed for special purposes.
    • Doctorman created a mechaclone to act like Starboy to deceive Peebo into revealing the location of the Biobase.
    • Another mechaclone was designed to look like and act like a boy's father to make Green Two believe he killed a human being which was hatched by Mason.
    • The Black Prince is a mechaclone designed after the likeness of Doctorman's real son and designed to be Doctorman's heir. Unlike the others, he had better fighting levels presumably the same with Mason, intelligent, daring, sadistic and scheming and reveals he could pilot his own machine or design his own mechagaigan. Ended up being rivals with Blue Three because of Blue Three's hatred for tyranny. He tried to kill Jun as an example to the others but was thwarted. This had one flaw- because of this, he ends up believing himself to be human after Blue Three's words triggered his human emotion. Revealed to be another specialized mechaclone when he fired up an attack against Psygorn. The blast would have ordinarily killed him but he was simply revealed. He shows his fighting potential and strength when Blue Three wasn't able to defeat him easily.
    • One mechaclone was disguised as a photographer with more intelligence making him deadly. However he was destroyed in battle by Yellow Four and Pink Five.
    • One mechaclone was a dummy but made to look like Blue Three to steal gold reserves and frame the Biomen. He was dismantled by the others.
    • One mechaclone was designed to look like Doctorman just in case the Big Three had a rebellion against him. This was killed making the Big Three believe Doctorman was killed.
    • Miki is a "female" mechaclone, one with deadly combat potential and the last specialized mechaclone Doctorman had. She was linked to Satan Megas. However when she was given a human circuit by Dr. Shibata, she ended up killing herself to allow Satan Megas to be destroyed.

Beastnoids

Unlike other Super Sentai series, the monsters Bioman fight do not start small and become giants when defeated. Instead Gear use the five Beastnoids (the Cybernoid Five in the English dubbed version), recurring mechanical monsters that fight the Biomen at normal size. Beast King is Monster's underling, and while the other members of Big Three sometimes display a preference for a certain Beastnoid, he is the only one to be designated a "master".

  • Psygorn (サイゴーン Saigōn?) (1-50) - A psychic monster looking like a three-headed jester, with the ability to spew fire and uses telekinesis, powered up in episode 32 with a stronger fireball, telekinetic attack and advanced energy beams. He is arguably the mightiest of all five because he was the last to be destroyed. He was at first working with Farrah but as time passed, he became Mason's closest ally to the last point to his death.
  • Mettzler (メッツラー Mettsurā?, Plasmanoid in the English dubbed version) (1-49) - He is a cycloptic spy monster armed with a rapier, and with the ability of energy beams and stealth attacks (notably turning into plasma, and creating holograms of himself), powered up in episode 33 with the power to stretch his limbs. He is probably the second strongest Beastnoid of the group and Farrah's preferred Beastnoid over Psygorn or any of the others. He uses deceptive tactics like Farrah. He died an honorable death protecting Farrah and Farrah Cat, absorbing the blast of the Super Bio Electron Charge that was meant for them.
  • Beast King (ジュウオウ Jūō?, Zeroid in the English dubbed version) (1-48) - He is a gorilla-like monster. He is often here for comic relief. He was rebuilt for more power in episode 34 with more chest cannons. He was originally dismantled (but he survived during the first attack, unlike the others, his parts were still intact for reassembly) but was rebuilt for his loyalty at the request of his master. He works as the acting leader as seen in episode 31 and in the movie.
  • Aquaiger (アクアイガー Akuaigā?, Aquanoid in the English dubbed version) (1-31) - He is a water monster who uses a spear-gun and is armed with Bubble Bombs and Acid Spray. He was destroyed by the Mecha Gigan Metal Megas in episode 31 when if fired on the field where Bioman was fighting the Beastnoids presumably with no spare parts. He is probably the weakest of the group, occasionally gets picked upon by others.
  • Messer Beast (メッサージュウ Messājū?, Falconoid in the English dubbed version) (1-31) - He is a gargoyle-like monster with the ability to fly and armed supersonic waves and laser energy beams. He was destroyed by the Mecha Gigan Metal Megas in episode 31 presumably without any spare parts for repair. The reason is probably because they weren't able to evade the strong attack in time.

Neo Mecha Gigans

The Neo Mecha Gigans (ネオメカジャイガン Neo Meka Jaigan?) are the newer, more powerful versions of the Mecha Gigans. Their names ends with the suffix "megas". Unlike the previous generation of robots which were self-operated, Neo Mecha Gigans are piloted by a member of the Big Three.

  • Metal Megas (メタルメガス Metarumegasu) (31) - This was the first robotic monster piloted by Mason.
  • Axe Megas (アックスメガス Akkusumegasu) (32) - This robotic monster was piloted by Mason.

Plot details

In the later episodes Doctor Man is revealed to be a human being after the Black Prince was destroyed in battle against the Biomen. Doctor Man uses the model of his real son to create the son he intended to have. He later reconstructs himself into a purely mechanical form after his real son Junichi refuses his side and at the same time, Mason sees the true origins of Doctor Man. The Big Three then attempt to assassinate Doctor Man but only succeed in killing his decoy. Doctor Man is revealed to be alive and well, reorganizing the Gear Empire.

As the series continues, both Messer Beast and Aquaiger die during the attack of the Mecha Gigan Metal Megas while Psygorn, Mettlzer and Beast King are reconstructed into stronger forms. The Biomen develop the Bio Electron Charge technique for both the Bio Robo and themselves as a counterattack. The Bio Hunter Silver then shows up to harass the Biomen and claim the rest of the Bio Particles.

The Gear Empire attempt to get their hands on the Bio Destroyer to destroy the Biomen. Mason is sent with Psygorn to retrieve the Bio Destroyer. The Biomen manage to defeat the two villains for now. At the same time Kenichi realizes that Doctor Shibata is his long lost father.

Beast King is finally destroyed in battle after being heavily injured, first by Silver and then by the Biomen. Monster dies as a martyr so the Gear Empire can get the Bio Destroyer Balzion after a fateful battle with another Neo Mecha Gigan.

In the next battle, Farrah goes into along with Mettzler. Mettlzer dies when he is heavily damaged by the Biomen after he tries to secure the Balzion (being overdosed by Silver's Anti-Bio Energy Beams) and trying to protect Farrah and Farrah Cat. Only Mason, Psygorn and Farrah Cat are left to deal with the Biomen.

The Biomen prepare to go to the South Pole to finish off the Gear Empire. Red One's cyborg father sacrifices himself so the Biomen can escape. They destroy Psygorn in battle where he succumbs to his injuries as well caused by Silver. Mason challenges Red One to a final duel. Mason is killed in a duel by Silver so he can reclaim Balzion. Just when Balzion is winning, Peebo enters the Bio Robo and charges it up with a huge amount of Bio energy allowing them to destroy Balzion and Silver. The Gear Empire is dying, and Doctor Man alone remains, wandering the corridors of Neograd while remembering his henchmen's loyalty.

The Biomen are then confronted by Doctor Man's last Mecha Gigan King Megas which nearly destroys them. The Mecha Gigan is then destroyed by Peebo charging the Bio Robo and Doctor Man attempts to activate a powerful bomb while in his dying state. In the meantime, the Biomen destroy what is left of Farrah Cat and the remaining Mecha Clones. Farrah Cat finally dies as well at the hands of Yellow Four and Pink Five.

Shuichi convinces Doctor Man to stop the bomb exploding which he does by using the picture he had as a baby. In one last moment of lucidity through his madness, Doctor Man finally agrees to do so, redeeming himself in the process through his death so the bomb can be stopped. With the flick of a switch, and with only 0.14 seconds left on the timer, the Biomen save the Earth.

Now that the Earth is safe again, Peebo and the Bio Robo leave for space.
