Christopher Paul Curtis

Christopher Paul Curtis (born May 10, 1953) is an American children's author and a Newbery Medal winner who wrote the The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963 and the critically acclaimed Bud, Not Buddy. Bud, Not Buddy is the first novel to receive the Coretta Scott King Award and the Newberry Medal.

He was born in Flint, Michigan, the partial setting of many of his books. After school, he worked for 13 years on an assembly line. Bud Not Buddy is the only book to win both the Newbery Medal for outstanding children's book published in the US for 1999 and the Coretta Scott King Award for best achievement for an African-American writer.

His newest book is titled Mr. Chickee's Messy Mission, it is also his first book aimed at children at younger audiences the ages of five to six. He also wrote "Bucking the Sarge", which is about a 15-year-old kid named Luther T. Ferrel also trying to escape Flint, Michigan. Curtis's Newberry Honor Award winning book, Bud Not Buddy, also won the Coretta Scott King award. It is a favorite among children and families. Christopher Paul Curtis's favorite authors are Toni Morrison, Kurt Vonnegut, Zora Neale Hurston.[citation needed]
