Contents

City Terrace is bounded by the city limits of Los Angeles on the north and west, Floral Drive on the south, and the city limits of Monterey Park on the east. Boyle Heights is on the west, Lincoln Heights is to the northwest, University Hills is to the north, Cal State Los Angeles is to the northeast, Monterey Park is to the east, and East Los Angeles is to the south. Major thoroughfares include City Terrace Drive, Eastern and Medford Avenues, and Herbert Street. The community is part of ZIP code 90063.

City Terrace is located atop the Monterey Hills at the heart of "East Los." The district's steep, winding streets are lined with generally well-preserved Spanish Colonial houses.

Like most of East Los Angeles, it was once considerably more diverse, with large Jewish, Serbian, Italian, and Japanese populations in addition to its Mexican/Chicano plurality, but since the 1950s it has been solidly Latino and predominantly working-class. Gangs have been a serious problem in the area since the 1970s, although the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has made some progress in combating them through community policing.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department is headquartered in City Terrace, just to the east of Eastern Avenue.
