City of Sunderland College

City of Sunderland College is one of the largest Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges in the UK based in Sunderland.
The college is a multi-centre establishment, with sites throughout North East England. The main centres of the college are the Bede Centre, Hylton Centre and the Shiney Row Centre and the new Usworth building.

The Shiney Row Centre now called Shiney Row Campus is the specialist centre for most of the visual and performing arts courses. The centres ethos is strong on creativity, encouraging students to pursue their talents with the use of the large performing hall and recording studio.
It provides facilities to assist students with their studies, careers or with university progression.
The Centre is equipped with language and science labs, hair and beauty salons, large-scale computer sites and a brand new art and design wing. It has recently been awarded the title of Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) for its network academy what offers Cisco CCNA courses in networking.
Hylton is the main centre on the north side of the river wear in Sunderland. For students wishing to train for careers in numerous occupations it offers valuable real life learning facilities, including a £1 million hospitality and catering wing with fully equipped training kitchens, a bistro and a fast food outlet.
The Centre is home to Hyltons Restaurant and Conference Centre, one of the top training restaurants in the UK. Also there is a hair and beauty salon, which offers hands-on experience over the range of vocational courses on offer.
A recent refurbishment has brought new teaching facilities and state of the art workshops and preparation areas for construction courses such as bricklaying, plumbing and joinery, as well as motor vehicle and electrical courses.
The Bede Centre is situated close to Sunderland City Centre and is full of the most advanced and modern facilities.
The Centre offers the students a fantastic 150 seat lecture theatre, equipped with the latest audio-visual aids. These excellent learning facilities enable the Centre to thrive in its delivery of business, business administration and computing courses.
The centre is also the base for Education courses, and for most higher education programmes.
It has the facilities to assist students with their studies, careers or with university progression.
In addition to the lecture theatre it also has fully equipped science labs and a two storey learning centre with hundreds of computers, thousands of books, CDs and research materials.
The College has three sixth forms, that it has entered in to partnership with local schools in the area. The sixth forms are St Peter's Sixth Form, which is currently lodging in the Humbledon Building (Bede Centre) until their premises is built for the academic year 2008/2009. St Peter's Sixth Form College serves the Sixth Form needs of Sunderland north and currently has a partnership arrangement with Monkwearmouth, Hylton Red House and Castle View Schools.
Bede Sixth Form Academy serves the Sixth Form needs of Sunderland south and currently has a partnership arrangement with Southmoor, Pennywell, Thornhill, Sandhill View and Farringdon schools.
Usworth Sixth Form Academy serves the Washington area and currently has a partnership arrangement with Usworth, Oxclose, Biddick and Washington schools.
In September 2006, Usworth Sixth form college Sixth Form College opened its brand new £10 million campus on Stephenson Road in Washington, Tyne and Wear, Washington, with state of the art facilities. The campus also won public sector building of the year at the Journal Landmark awards in 2006.
Each of the colleges centres has its own learning centre or ILC as know by the students, in which the students can have access to networked computers, loan books from the library or even just find a quiet place to read.
