Clan Coyote

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clan Coyote is a member of The Clans in the popular sci-fi universe BattleTech owned by the FASA Corporation. This information is specific to Clan Coyote, more general information can be found on one of the previous three links.

A tradition minded Warden Clan bearing cultural stylings of the ancient Terran Native Americans, the Coyotes were once among the most powerful and largest of Clans, having exclusive control of five worlds and partial control of many others in the Kerensky Cluster. Inventors of the OmniMech (among other things), Coyote scientists are renowned for their brilliance. Today, they are a shadow of their once resplendent Clan. Formerly steadfast allies of Clan Wolf, they fought against the Crusaders from the onset. However, the sundering of the Wolf Clan and the subsequent expulsion of its Warden elements have caused relations with that Clan to cool. Recently, the efforts of Khan Sullivan Koga to revitalize her Clan have come to fruition in the form of a re-organized military and the development of several new battlemechs, the most notable being the Savage Coyote omnimech, employs Advanced Tactical Missiles as its primary weaponry. However, the death of Khan Koga on Huntress and the ill-fated Coyote attack on the Babylon Diet have seriously hindered this Clan's efforts for a brighter future. Also attributing to the Coyote's waning influence, is the lack of mobility amongst their more heavily used mechs. The Savage Coyote omnimech and Canis second-line mech are incredibly powerful, however are slower than other mechs of their weight class. This disadvantage has hurt the Coyotes to such a degree, that they created an escort mech, the Rabid Coyote, to run as higher speed support for these powerful, but slow assets. This has caused much strife within Clan Coyote, due to the fact that mechs playing support for one another are an alien concept in the Clan way of battle.
