Claude Bowes-Lyon, 13th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne

Claude Bowes-Lyon, 13th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (July 21, 1824 - February 16, 1904) was a British peer. He was the 13th holder of the Earldom of Strathmore and Kinghorne.

He was born in Redburn, Hertfordshire. He was the second surviving son of Thomas George Bowes-Lyon, Lord Glamis (son of the 11th Earl) and his wife Charlotte Grimstead.

His paternal grandparents were Thomas Bowes-Lyon, 11th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and his first wife Mary Elizabeth Louisa Rodney Carpenter. His maternal grandparents were Joseph Valentine Grimstead and Charlotte Sarah Jane Walsh.

On 28 September 1853, Claude married Frances Dora Smith. Together they had 11 children:

In 1865 he succeeded his elder brother Thomas. In 1887 he was created Baron Bowes, of Streatlam Castle and Lunedale, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. He was a Scottish representative peer from 1870 until 1892, and Lord Lieutenant of Angus from 1874 until his death.
