Clitoris piercing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A clitoris piercing is a piercing through the clitoris itself. It is a relatively uncommon piercing and is often confused with the more common clitoral hood piercing, which pierces only the hood of the clitoris. Depending on the anatomy of the individual, they can be oriented either vertically or horizontally. This piercing, like male genital piercings which penetrate the glans penis, can be extremely sexually stimulating. This piercing requires that the piercee have a large enough clitoris to make the piercing viable.

Like all piercings in highly sensitive erectile tissue, there is always a risk of nerve damage associated with this piercing, although it is rare. Although there is a lack of evidence, urban legends pose that desensitization may arise in the bearer as she becomes acclimated to constant stimulation.

Both captive bead rings and barbell style jewelry can be worn in this piercing, both as initial jewelry and in the long term.

This piercing is of contemporary origin. Although body piercing has become more common, piercings of the clitoris are still rare. Jim Ward, being interviewed by Andrea Juno in the 1989 book Modern Primitives, stated "I've been in the business for over 10 years and I haven't done more than half a dozen clit piercings."
