El Porvenir is an Argentine football (soccer) club, based in the neighbourhood of Villa Porvenir in the town of Gerli which is part of the district of Avellaneda in the Gran Buenos Aires.

A rough translation of the name is "the future" or "what is still to come".

The team kit is black and white vertical stripes with black shorts and socks, similar to the kit of Newcastle United, though a club website claims that the inspiration for these colours was the visit of Newcastle's hated rivals Sunderland AFC.

The home of El Porvenir is the Enrique De Roberts stadium which has a capacity of 14,000.

The club has not played in the top division since the beginning of the professional era of Argentinian football in 1931.

El Porvenir were relegated from the 2nd tier of Argentinian football at the end of Clausura 2006, despite finishing in 12th place out of 20 teams in Primera B. The reason behind their relegation is the complicated relegation system, which relies on a points per game average over the last 3 seasons (6 championships). El Porvenir ended the 2005/2006 campaigns with an average of 1.211 points per game, which was the lowest average amongst the Metropolitan teams meaning automatic relegation to the regionalised third tier, Primera B Metropolitana.
