Cobra Starship was created by former Midtown's bassist/lead vocalist Gabe Saporta and are best known for their song "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It). The members of Cobra Starship are Gabe Saporta, Victoria Asher, Ryland Blackinton, Alex Suarez and Nate Navarro.

Gabe Saporta, along with William Beckett of The Academy Is..., Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, and Maja Ivarsson of The Sounds were featured in a music video for the movie Snakes on a Plane. Their song, "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)," was featured on the Snakes on a Plane: The Album, released on August 15, 2006.

Cobra Starship replaced Bloc Party as an opening act for the second half of the Panic! at the Disco headlined Nothing Rhymes With Circus Tour.

Cobra Starship will be touring with Cartel, Boys Like Girls, Permanent Me, and Quietdrive throughout the months of February and March. Cobra Starship will then join Fall Out Boy, (+44), The Academy Is..., and Paul Wall on the 2007 Honda Civic Tour starting in April.

Cobra Starship made a new song, "Awww Dip," for the TMNT movie soundtrack, released on March 20, 2007.

Contents

  • Ryland and Alex have their own band called The Ivy League.[1]
  • Elisa Anna Schwartz previously played keytar before being replaced by Asher[1].
  • The origin of the band's name, according to Saporta, is that he owns two "old vintage-style" jackets, one with "Cobra" and the other "Starship Disco"; Saporta simply combined the two.
  • While opening for 30 Seconds to Mars as part of the MTV2 $2 Bill Presents Welcome to the Universe tour, Travis McCoy, who does the rap during the middle of "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)," was touring with his own band Gym Class Heroes and was unable to perform with them. The band has made a practice of pulling select audience members onto the stage to perform the rap in his place.
  • Cobra Starship is also responsible for the phrase, "throw your fangs up" accompanied by the gesture of placing two bent fingers in one hand in front of the open palm of the other hand.
  • The song "The Church of Hot Addiction" is featured in a TGI Fridays commercial.
