Club de Deportes Cobreloa is a Chilean football club from the Atacama Desert mining city of Calama which has established itself as one of the country's most competitive clubs.

Unlike most well-known clubs, Cobreloa is relatively new, having been founded on January 7, 1977. The club was able to establish itself in Chile's top flight very quickly, earning promotion after its first season; it has stayed in the top flight ever since.

Perhaps no other club in history has moved from creation to international prominence as rapidly as Cobreloa. Only four years after it was founded, Cobreloa reached the finals of the Copa Libertadores in 1981, losing in a third match to Brazil's Flamengo. Cobreloa also reached the Copa Libertadores final the following year, losing then to Peñarol of Uruguay. The club also made a Copa Libertadores semifinal appearance in 1987.

The team uses an all-orange home kit.

The name Cobreloa comes from the district they are from, namely El Loa. The largest copper mine in the world is there. Cobre, Spanish for copper, and Loa, from El Loa; Cobreloa.
