Over the years enrollment in the first-year program has grown from 13 to 125 students, the number presently enrolled. In 1978, the program was expanded to include the remaining three years of undergraduate medical education, and each year 25 medical students (mostly students in the Medical Scholars Program) remain in Urbana-Champaign to complete their MD degree. The College of Medicine had its last accreditation review in November, 2001, at which time the College received a full eight-year accreditation
