Come Drink with Me (Chinese: 大醉俠, Mandarin: Da Zui Xia, literally Big Drunken Hero) is a 1966 martial arts film directed by King Hu. Set during the Ming Dynasty, it stars Cheng Pei-Pei and Yueh Hua as underdog warriors, and features fight choreography by frequent Hu collaborator Han Yingjie.
A general’s son is taken hostage and used as leverage to free a bandit leader. The general’s other offspring, Golden Swallow (Cheng Pei Pei), is sent to rescue the son. When the bandit gang encounter the Golden Swallow in a local inn, they are taken aback by his martial arts ability and are swiftly defeated. With the help of local beggar Fan Da-Pei (Yueh Hua), the Golden Swallow keeps the bandits at bay. However, when the Golden Swallow’s identity is revealed as that of a young lady, complications arise.
Jackie Chan is rumoured to have appeared as one of the child singers near the beginning of the film. Lead actress Cheng denies this.[citation needed] Still, the film is listed among Chan's acting credits on his official website.[1]
It was followed by the sequel, Golden Swallow.
