Commodore Ballroom

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Commodore Ballroom (also known as Lady Commodore) is a nightclub and music venue located on Granville Street in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. It is a general admission venue with a capacity of 900, including standing room and table seating.

The room first opened in December, 1929, but with the onset of the Great Depression briefly closed four months later. The Commodore then operated as one of Vancouver's premier entertainment venues for 7 decades until closing in 1996. After $3.5 million in renovations (including a new hardwood dancefloor) it reopened under the House of Blues banner on November 12, 1999.

The 75th anniversary celebrations included a performance by Tom Waits on October 16, 2004.

The club is known for having showcased musical and performing artists ranging from the Ramones to the Jim Rose Circus, Garbage to GWAR, but is perhaps equally famous for its "bouncing" dance floor.
