Computer-based testing

Computer-based testing (CBT), also called e-exam, computerized testing and computer-administered testing, is a method of administering tests in which the responses are electronically recorded, assessed, or both. As the name implies, computer-based testing makes use of a computer or an equivalent electronic device.
Computer-based testing system enables educators and trainers to author, schedule, deliver, and report on surveys, quizzes, tests and exams. It may be a stand-alone system or a part of a virtual learning environment, possibly accessed via the World Wide Web.
Computer-based testing is particularly well suited to tests consisting of multiple-choice questions, which can assessed automatically, reducing labor and costs. Some systems allow to include free response questions, but even then the questions must be assessed manually, and tests containing them don't benefit as much from being administed with a computer.
