Corey Burton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Corey Burton (born August 3, 1955), is an animation voice actor. Burton began his voice career nearly 30 years ago - at age 17, doing a sound-alike for Disney as Hans Conreid. He studied radio acting with the legendary Daws Butler "Time for Beany," "Merrie Melodies," "Yogi Bear" for several years, and went on to work with nearly all of the original Hollywood radio actors in classic style radio dramas. The San Fernando Valley native has voiced sound-alikes and original characters for over 50 Disney Storyteller records. His roles include Ludwig Von Drake on DuckTales Quack Pack, Mickey Mouse Works and Disney's House of Mouse; Dale and Zipper on Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers; Mole in Atlantis: The Lost Empire; Onus in Treasure Planet; Brainiac in Superman: The Animated Series, Static Shock, and Justice League; and Captain Hook in Return to Never Land and Kingdom Hearts. He will also star in Peter Pan III. He also voices various characters on the Focus on the Family radio drama Adventures in Odyssey.

He has done extensive voicework for Disney including but not limited to the feature animation, theme park, and interactive sections of the company. Burton has done voice work for attractions at the Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, and Tokyo Disney Resort, and could be considered the successor to Jack Wagner, who was nicknamed "The Voice of Disneyland." He has also done numerous cartoon series for other networks such as the Cartoon Network.

Burton also has done work for the Universal Studios Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando, FL in addition to the Universal Studios Japan theme park.

He is perhaps best known for his imitation of the late Paul Frees as the Ghost Host in Disneyland's Haunted Mansion Holiday attraction. He was approached to record a new safety spiel for the beginning of the ride. He agreed to do it only if it was an addition and didn't replace any of Paul Frees' original dialogue. (This was not the case so he declined. The spiel was instead recorded by voice actor Joe Leahy, a move not popular with Haunted Mansion enthusiasts. Petitions are being drawn either to have Paul Frees reinstated or Corey to re-record it. He also recited the classic line "Welcome, foolish mortals" in the opening of the film version of The Haunted Mansion. He did another Frees imitation for the second volume of Stan Freberg Presents the United States of America.

He is also known for his roles in the hit 1980s cartoons Transformers as Shockwave, Sunstreaker, Brawn and Spike Witwicky; and GI Joe as Tomax. He has also starred as the evil antagonist Kanawk for the cult 80's cartoon Robotix, as well as taking the roles of Goon and Tauron. He is the voice of the villainous Count Dooku in all Star Wars Expanded Universe media. He is also the voice of Trommel Guado and Maester Kelk Ronso in PlayStation 2 video game Final Fantasy X. He voices Fantasia's Yen Sid, Tron's Sark and MCP and 4 other characters in the video game Kingdom Hearts II. He is also the voice of Zeus in the video game God of War II for the Playstation 2.

Doing voice overs for many commercials and promos, Burton's voice might also be recognized from the popular Old Navy commercials, which he inherited after the death of Bill Wendell. Recently, he provided his voice for the Final Fantasy XII TV promo. He also provides the "Feature Presentation" voice on numerous Disney videos.
