Cork Athletic F.C.

Cork Athletic F.C. is a former Irish football club based in Cork. They played in the League of Ireland between 1948 and 1958. On February 13 1948, when Cork United resigned from the league, Cork Athletic was immediately formed using the same personnel and elected to league in their place. In 1958 after a special general meeting of the League of Ireland, Cork Athletic's membership of the league was cancelled. No reason was given but it was widely believed that the club's financial problems over a number of years were to blame.
