Craig Carnelia is an American musical theater composer and singer best known for his collaboration on Working.
Craig Carnelia grew up in Floral Park, Long Island. He was exposed to Broadway at the age of fourteen. Inspired by the Richard Rodgers musical, No Strings, Carnelia would go on to pursue a career in acting. Craig landed the role of 'The Boy' in Off-Broadway's legendary The Fantasticks. After a short stint in the production, Carnelia would go on to pursue songwriting and, later, musical theatre composition.
His songs were heard (side by side with the work of other writers) in the conceptual revue, Working. Carnelia would graduate to a full score, writing words and music for the short-lived, but cult favorite Broadway musical, Is There Life After High School?, which is still performed in stock, amateur and regional theaters. Carnelia recently switched gears and wrote lyrics for his most high-profile show yet, Sweet Smell of Success, teaming with composer Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line).
His most well-known songs can be found in the musicals Working (1978), Is There Life After High School? (1982), and Sweet Smell of Success (2002).
