Crystal Meth Anonymous

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crystal Meth Anonymous (CMA) is an informal society of recovered and recovering methamphetamine addicts. Men and women meet in local groups of varying sizes in order to stay clean and help others recover from methamphetamine addiction. CMA is a 12-step program of complete abstinance from methamphetamine, alcohol, inhalants, and all other medications not taken as prescribed, as well as all other mind-altering substances.

CMA teaches that the addict who wishes to stay clean should abstain from methamphetamine on a daily basis. CMA offers a community of recovering people in support of the individual addict who wishes to stay clean. Utilizing the twelve steps as a vigorous program of action, step studies are a central part of meeting structure and topic. Each group is autonomous and self-supporting.

Founded in West Hollywood, California, CMA now has a presence in over 100 metropolitan areas of the United States, as well as parts of Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

In large metropolitan areas, such as Los Angeles, New York City, and Washington, DC, CMA is largely composed of gay men, reflecting the use of crystal meth in urban gay communities, although there no one is excluded from Crystal Meth Anonymous meetings that has a desire to stop using the drug.
