Cumberland was one of the nine original teams in the first New South Wales Rugby League premiership in 1908, albeit admitted after the first round of matches had already been played.
Their solitary win for the season was against Wests. At the end of the season the club was absorbed by Wests, and hence remains the shortest lived NSWRL/ARL/SL/NRL club, playing a mere 8 games. In Cumberlands Last Game in rugby league on the 25th of July 1908, they could only field 11 of their players, and in order to make up the numbers, had to co-opt 2 of their opponents (North Sydney) officials to make up the numbers.
