D.C. United Holdings

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

D.C. United Holdings is a group of investors that control operating rights to D.C. United, a soccer club that is part of Major League Soccer (MLS). The group is led by Victor MacFarlane (founder of MacFarlane Partners), William H.C. Chang (chairman of Westlake International Group), Brian Davis and Christian Laettner (co-managers of Blue Devil Ventures), and Kevin Payne (president of D.C. United) who will maintain his position with the new investors. D.C. United Holdings are also interested in adding Discovery Communications founder John Hendricks, who is also the founder of Women's United Soccer Association, to the "majority-minority" group. Victor MacFarlane and Brian Davis are the first African-American owners and William H.C. Chang is the first Chinese Asian-American owner in MLS. D.C. United Holdings bought D.C. United from Anschutz Entertainment Group for $33 million, a record fee for operational rights to an MLS club. The group is pursuing a 27,000-seated soccer-specific stadium planned for Poplar Point, a federally owned property on the Anacostia River, for the 2009 season.
