The Daewoo Kalos is a subcompact automobile built by GM Daewoo, a South Korean subsidiary of General Motors. It is sold in export markets under various brands and names, most prominently as Chevrolet Aveo. A detailed account of different brands used can be found below.

The Kalos is based on the "Daewoo Flex" concept previewed at Frankfurt Motor Show in 2001, and was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Initial research and platform engineering work was carried out at Daewoo's (now disbanded) Worthing Technical Centre in the UK, with the bulk of the development programme being completed at Daewoo's main Technical Center at Bupyong in Korea.

The original Daewoo Kalos is based on a GM Daewoo platform called T200, which itself is a replacement for the T100 platform used in Daewoo Lanos. There are no other vehicles using that platform, so the vehicle itself is also referred to as T200. T200 models debuted during 2002 in South Korea, North America, Europe and most other markets, unless otherwise indicated. A taxi version is available in Ecuador.

At the 2005 Shanghai Auto Show, GM Daewoo presented an updated version of the Kalos in a sedan form, designed in cooperation with PATAC. This version of the vehicle bears the internal code T250.

A revised version of the hatchback was presented as Chevrolet Aveo during the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. The model has been on sale on the Korean market as Gentra X [1].

• 5-door hatchback - This body style debuted in 2002.
• 4-door sedan - The sedan also debuted in 2002. It is also the only body style for the updated T250 as of June 2006.
• 3-door hatchback - The 3-door hatchback was added in 2005.

The T200 was sold as Daewoo Kalos. Daewoo started selling the T250 sedan in September 2005 as the Daewoo Gentra, replacing Kalos sedan. In greek, kalos (καλός) is the masculine form of the adjective "good", while "Gentra" was derived from the English word "gentleman" and "transport(ation)". The tagline in the advertising campaign introducing the Gentra in Korea was "Are you gentle?", and the campaign starred Daniel Henny.

In USA and Canada, 5-door and 4-door models are sold as Chevrolet Aveo. The new T250 sedan debuted in January 2006 as the 2007 Chevrolet Aveo at the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show. Sales commenced in North America in August 2006. The Aveo hatchback is marketed as "Aveo5" in Canada and, since the 2007 model year, in the United States. Additionally, the car is sold as Pontiac Wave (4-door and 5-door) and Suzuki Swift+ (5-door) in Canada. The T200 Wave sedan was replaced for the 2007 model year with the T250, coinciding with the release of the 2007 T250 Aveo.

The T200 is sold as Chevrolet Aveo in Ecuador (3-door), Venezuela (3-door, 5-door and 4-door), Colombia and Chile (all body styles). In Mexico, the T200 is not sold, but the T250 sedan is sold as Pontiac G3.

Until the end of 2004, the T200 was sold as Daewoo Kalos. In the beginning of 2005, the Daewoo brand was dropped by GM in favor of Chevrolet in Western Europe, so the Kalos was rebadged Chevrolet Kalos accordingly (along with the introduction of the 3-door). The new T250 sedan is to be sold as Chevrolet Aveo and replace the Kalos sedan in 2006.

The T200 was sold as Chevrolet Aveo from the very beginning. The T250 has replaced the T200 sedan in 2006, retaining the same name.

The T200 model was previously available under the Daewoo Kalos name before Daewoo's Australian operations were wound up at the end of 2004. It was then absent from the Australian market until Holden re-introduced it in December 2005, as the new TK Holden Barina (3-door and 5-door). The TK Barina replaced the previous XC Barina, which was an imported and rebadged European Opel Corsa. The T250 sedan was introduced in February 2006, and both the T200 and T250 models are sold together as the Barina lineup.

The T200 is sold as Chevrolet Aveo in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines (5-door only), as well as South Africa and China (5-door and 4-door). The T250 sedan is sold as Chevrolet Lova in China. The T250 was launched in India in 2006 as Chevrolet Aveo along with the slogan "The Indian Revolution", clearly referencing Chevrolet's American catchphrase "The American Revolution".The T250 flopped in the indian market thanks to its horrible manual gearbox which required for very notchy/cumbersome shifting in the bumper to bumper traffic of indian roads. The T200 hatchback will be sold in India later in 2006 as the Chevrolet Aveo U-VA. A taxi called Chevytaxi is based on the T200 sedan.

Most Kalos/Aveos are assembled in the Bupyong plant in South Korea. In Ukraine, Russia and Venezuela, local versions of the Aveo are assembled from CKD. For the Chinese market, Aveos and Lovas are manufactured by Shanghai GM Dongyue. In India, Aveo 1.2 Hatch Back, Aveo 1.4 and 1.6 are assembled from Halol Plant. Also in Egypt GM assembly plant started in august 2007 producing the Aveo locally in 3 models all have the 1.5 liters –SOHC E-Tec II L4 engine: manual basic, manual full option, and automatic full option
