The services are operated by ex-British Rail Class 142 and 150 units, with Class 156's and 153's making occasional appearances. These units are relatively modern, introduced in the mid 1980s. They are often seen working in multiple with each other, particularly when working ECS moves, most of which pass through in the late evening or early hours of the morning.

The maximum linespeed is 40mph on this section of the branch.

Freight services are very limited in number through Daisy Hill. When one does appear, it is normally at night, and hauled by new Class 66 locomotives. A freight service is normally diverted through Daisy Hill due to engineering works taking place on its booked route, normally taking place overnight.

Classes 158, 175, 185, 220, 221 and 390 are seen during diversions, the latter hauled being dragged by class 57/3s diesel locomotives as the line is not electrified.

Be warned of the grumpy old man known as Albert Flintstone who often spends the evening on Daisy Hill platforms trainspotting, often ranting about how 'rubbish' the modern trains are compared to the trains of the good old days!
