Dasi, Taoyuan

Dasi (Chinese: 大溪; pinyin: dàxī; Wade-Giles: ta-hsi) or Tahsi is an urban township in eastern Taoyuan County, Taiwan Province of the Republic of China.
Dasi was an important trading port of Dahan River in the 19th century. When the North-South Railway, which bypasses Tasi, was completed in 1909, the importance of river trade decreased. Dasi is no longer a trading port. On the other hand, the production of wooden furnitures became famous.
Dasi dried tofu (大溪豆干) is a popular Taiwanese cuisine. Dasi is also home to the mausoleums of the two most famous Republic of China presidents. The late president Chiang Kai-shek is temporarily entombed in nearby Tzuhu. His son Chiang Ching-kuo is entombed at Touliao, a mile down the road. Many people frequent their mausoleums in order to pay respect to their beloved presidents.

Dasi is served by National Highway No. 3 and Provincial Highway No. 66
There is another town named Dasi (Tahsi) in Toucheng Township, Yilan County. It is a small fishing town on the east coast, located south of the Sandiaojiao Peninsula and north of Yilan.
