Mimas (data centre)

Mimas is a national data centre based at The University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. It is responsible for a variety of web-based services run for the benefit of the UK Higher and Further Education community, many of which are funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Mission Statement: To provide the UK Higher Education, Further Education and research community with access to key data and information resources to support teaching, learning and research across a wide range of disciplines.
Their web-based services include:
- Archives Hub
- Census Dissemination Unit provides access to UK census data.
- Copac (union catalogue for UK and Irish research libraries)
- CrossFire (chemical information, including the Beilstein and Gmelin databases.)
- ESDS International (for international datasets)
- Hairdressing Training
- IESR (JISC Information Environment Service Registry)
- Intute
- ISI Web of Knowledge Service for UK Education (gateway to Thomson Scientific's Web of Knowledge database)
- Jorum (repository for learning and teaching materials)
- Landmap (Satellite Image Data Service)
- Zetoc (the electronic table of contents for journals and conference proceedings from the British Library)
