Dave Toschi

Dave Toschi (b. 1931) is a former inspector in the San Francisco Police Department. He is best known for his role as a chief investigator in the Zodiac Killer case.

Toschi is currently vice president of North Star Security Services in Daly City. He was an advisor to the producers of the 2007 film Zodiac. The part of Toschi is portrayed in the film by actor Mark Ruffalo.

Steve McQueen based his character in the movie Bullitt on Dave Toschi[citation needed]. McQueen's preparation for the role included having a copy made of Toschi's custom fast-draw shoulder holster[citation needed].

Clint Eastwood's character "Dirty" Harry Callahan in the film of the same name was said to have been based on Toschi's[citation needed], while the murderer in the film, Scorpio, is supposedly based on the Zodiac killer[citation needed]. On police record is the Zodiac's response and critique of the film just after it opened[citation needed].
