David Ackroyd

David Ackroyd (born May 30, 1940 in Orange, New Jersey) is an American actor, who first came to prominence in soap operas such as The Secret Storm (as Kevin Kincaid, 1971-74) and Another World (as Dr. Dave Gilchrist, 1974-77).
He is also notable for being the first actor to play Gary Ewing, the "black sheep" of the central family in the drama series Dallas. When the spin-off series, Knots Landing, was being developed, he was unable to reprise the rôle and the part was taken over by Ted Shackelford.
He subsequently appeared in Knots Landing as Bill Medford. Other TV credits include the lead role in the miniseries The Dark Secret of Harvest Home (1978) and appearances in Kojak, Lou Grant, Trapper John M.D., AfterMASH, Dynasty, Hunter, Riptide, Hotel, The A Team, Cagney and Lacey, St. Elsewhere, Highway to Heaven, MacGyver, Murder She Wrote and Xena: Warrior Princess.
On Broadway, Ackroyd appeared in Unlikely Heroes, a 1971 production of three plays based on the stories of Philip Roth; and Children of a Lesser God, in which he replaced John Rubinstein as the lead character James Leeds in 1981 .
