David Birney (23 April 1939— ) is an American actor. He was born in Washington, D.C..

He was married to Meredith Baxter from 1974 to 1989. The two had played the husband and wife characters of Bernie and Bridget Steinberg in the series Bridget Loves Bernie.

Other shows in which Birney was a main cast member include Love is a Many Splendored Thing, A World Apart, Serpico, St. Elsewhere, Glitter, and Live Shot.

He voiced Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars radio adaptation of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

He has guest-starred in many classic television series from the 1970s and 1980s including The F.B.I., The Streets of San Francisco, Hawaii Five-O and Matlock. In the 1990s, he guest starred in a wide variety of shows: Murder She Wrote, Burke's Law, The Love Boat: The Next Wave, Sliders and the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Tears of the Prophets".
