David Norman (soccer)

David McDonald Norman, Jr. (born May 6, 1962) is a former long-time Canadian international as a defensive midfielder.
A Vancouver native, Norman played for Canada 51 times between 1983 and 1994, including all three of the country's 1986 World Cup games. He achieved this despite not playing any games from 1987 and 1991 in part of his involvement in a match-fixing scandal in the Merlion Cup tournament in Singapore in 1986. Norman had recently been selected by the fledgling Canadian Soccer League's Winnipeg Fury. Norman also played for the Canadians at the 1984 Olympics.
The 173 cm tall Norman was a long time Vancouver 86ers player who began his pro career with the original Vancouver Whitecaps of the NASL, for whom he played from 1981 to 1984. He played a total of 16 years as a pro including indoor soccer in the 1980s with the Tacoma Stars of the original MISL. Between 1980 and 1983 he played, during the winter on the University College Dublin F.C.. He made 43 League appearances scoring 7 goals during his time in Ireland.
In recent years he has been a frequent soccer colour commentator on local radio, including the The TEAM 1040 in Vancouver as a World Cup analyst.
