David Wayne Toms (born January 4, 1967) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. He has spent a considerable amount of time in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
Toms was born in Monroe, Louisiana, and resides in Shreveport. He won the 15-17 Boys' event at the 1984 Junior World Golf Championships. He then attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge before joining the PGA Tour in 1992. He has won one major championship, the 2001 PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club, and a total of twelve events on the PGA Tour.
His winning score of 265 (15 under par) in the 2001 PGA Championship is the lowest absolute 72-hole score ever recorded in a major championship (although not the lowest in relation to par; Tiger Woods holds that record).
Toms's caddie's wife is the daughter of hockey legend Stan Mikita [1].
