David Waite (born 1951 in New South Wales) is a former Australian rugby league coach. He has also coached Great Britain in the Rugby League Tri-Nations.
Waite holds a British passport, courtesy of his father being born in Leicester.
In 1973 he won first Australian cap; he won six caps as a winger in total.
He turned to coaching and built a reputation as a man with a good technical grasp of the game. After a spell with Newcastle Knights, he joined St George-Illawarra in 1996. He went on to guide them to the Australian championship final in 1999.
He was reportedly offered the job of New Zealand coach in 2000 but instead came to Britain to work as a coaching co-ordinator in 2000 for the RFL.
In February 2001, he was appointed head coach and technical director of the Great Britain rugby league side. He stepped down from this role in 2003.
During 2006 he has worked behind the scenes with Catalan Dragons in their inaugural season in the Super League.
David has however announced that he intends to return to Australia once Catalan Dragons' 2006 Super League season finishes.
