David White (April 4, 1916 – November 27, 1990) was an American stage, film and television actor.
Born in Denver, Colorado, he served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He began his acting career in live theatre, making his Broadway debut in 1953. He married actress Mary Welch and had a son, Jonathan White, born on July 14, 1955. Three years later Mary died during a second childbirth. In 1964 White got the role of Larry Tate on Bewitched which he played from 1964-1972, the show's entire run. His son, Jonathan, died at the age of 33, a victim of the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. Jonathan, a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, was to begin his audit career with Coopers & Lybrand (Pricewaterhouse Coopers) in January 1989. David did not recover from this event.
He died of a heart attack on November 27, 1990 aged 74. He is today interred with Jonathan White at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
In "Bewitched", the fictional Tates have a son named Jonathon, who was a year older than Tabitha.
He was a long time friend of fellow accomplished theatre producer, Jennifer Reeder. They attended Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, Missouri together.
