De Stijl is the second album by American rock band The White Stripes, released in 2000 (see 2000 in music). The album reached #38 on Billboard magazine's Top Independent Albums chart in 2002 when The White Stripes' popularity began establishing itself. It has since become a cult hit for White Stripes fans because it displays the early simplicity of the band before the breakthrough success of White Blood Cells.
"De Stijl" (Dutch pronunciation: IPA: [də ˈstɛil]) is the name of a Dutch art movement and means "The Style". Lead singer Jack White had been an admirer of the movement for a long time, especially of Gerrit Rietveld who made furniture but also designed the Rietveld Schröder House, which Jack and Meg visited while they were on tour in The Netherlands.
De Stijl was dedicated to Rietveld as well as Blind Willie McTell.
