Dean "Deano" Wicks is a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders. He is played by Matt Di Angelo, and made his first appearance on 2 January 2006, where he entered Albert Square and stole some of the flowers laid on the road, following Dennis Rickman's death.

He is the former great nephew of Pat Evans and was later joined by his dad Kevin (played by Phil Daniels) and sister Carly (played by Kellie Shirley).

Deano convinced Pat to let him stay with her, after telling her his father had died a few weeks previously in a car accident. (This later turned out to be a lie when Deano's father arrived on the Square.) Deano soon befriended Dawn Swann, who rejected his flirtatious advances, and Gus Smith, whom he helped in his campaign to free his imprisoned dog, Wellard. However his intention was not to help Gus but to make some money, when he placed a bet on the outcome of Wellard's court case.

On 24 January 2006, he and Stacey Slater went to the Scarlet nightclub taking newcomer Bradley Branning, grandson of Jim Branning, with them. Deano wanted Stacey to lighten up as she was in a bad mood, so he spiked her drink with a drug. On her way home from the club, Stacey collapsed on the street. Deano and Bradley found her and Deano went to get some blankets to keep her warm. When Bradley picked Stacey up and put her on a bench, she woke up and hit him because she thought he was attacking her. After Bradley was arrested for attempted rape, Deano felt gulity that it was all his fault and admitted to Stacey he spiked her drink. She then flew into a rage and slapped him. Deano went to the police and confessed he had spiked Stacey's drink. He begged the police not to put him in jail, as he only wanted to cheer Stacey up. Bradley was finally released and Deano asked him to forgive him and be friends again. But Bradley refused, saying he was never really Deano's friend.

When Dawn had a terrible date with a wine merchant, which reduced her to tears in the café, Deano showed his caring side and comforted the upset girl. He gave her his jacket and a scarf to wear as he walked her home, which sparked rumours that Deano and Dawn were soon to become an item.

During a conversation with Pat, Kevin revealed that he'd had another son, James (or Jimbo) Wicks. Lively Jimbo had died of cystic fibrosis, and quiet Dean had promised to do all the things Jimbo never got to. Dean became Deano overnight, after Jimbo's death, as Jimbo was his best friend as well as his brother. On the fifth anniversary of Jimbo's death, Deano nearly crashed into Dr. Oliver Cousins' car and stole the Queen Victoria bust from Grant Mitchell, twice.

In late 2006, Kevin took his children, along with Denise and her family, and Patrick and Yolande Trueman on holiday to Dorset. Deano's mother and Kevin's ex-wife Shirley was tipped off that they were there by Kevin's old friend Dylan. Shirley broke into Kevin's minivan, discovering where Kevin, Deano and Carly were now living. She deliberately bumped into her children and pretended to be a stranger, as they had not seen her since they were children. She later came to the holiday house and Kevin was surprised to see her. He told her to leave him, Deano and Carly alone.

On 1 January 2007, Shirley came to Walford to see Carly and Deano. She walked into Kevin, and he dragged her into the men's public toilets, where he made her beg to see the children. Carly saw them fighting outside and worked out that Shirley was her mother. Carly deliberately bumped into Shirley, pretending she didn't know who she was, and invited her back to their home. Kevin and Denise returned home, and while Shirley took a bath, Carly forced Kevin to admit that Shirley was their mother. When Shirley returned downstairs, she asked Carly and Deano if they had a hug for their mother. Carly threw her out, and she later gave her address to Denise, who later passed it on to a depressed Deano. Deano eventually paid her a visit only to see her through the window, drunk with a man.

On 15 January 2007, after weeks over going off the rails, Deano crashed a car, injuring Abi Branning and Chelsea Fox. Deano was fighting for his life in hospital. Shirley turned up at the hospital to see Deano, much to Kevin's dismay.

Shirley decided to leave her family again, but when Deano told Kevin that he thought Shirley had left seventeen years previously because of him, Kevin made Shirley stay to put things right with Deano. She then got a job and a flat locally, saying she was staying around. She bribed Kevin with a secret that he was keeping from Deano and Carly. Shirly later told the secret to Pat Evans, and when Carly was suspicious, she and Deano forced Kevin to tell them the truth — that he was not their real father. Shirley revealed that both Carly and Deano had been the products of one-night stands, and that she could not even remember the name of Deano's real father.
