Dear Mama is a grammy-nominated song on 2Pac's third solo album, Me Against the World. It is dedicated to his mother, Afeni Shakur. Its melody samples "Sadie" by The Spinners, and "In All My Wildest Dreams" by Joe Sample. It's considered by many fans, critics and purists as one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all-time.

The song topped the Billboard Hot Rap Singles Chart for five weeks, the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart for one week, and peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It also topped the Hot Dance Music Maxi-Singles sales chart for 4 weeks.

It is considered by many to be 2Pac's most emotional and most respected song, and is praised by many artists, (Eminem mentions it as his favorite Tupac song [1]) even by many artists who aren't into the hip hop business.

In 1998 it appeared on 2Pac's Greatest Hits.

The official remix produced by Nitty and featuring Anthony Hamilton appears on the 2006 release Pac's Life.

The music video for 'Dear Mama' was made and released by Calvin Caday while 2Pac was incarcerated, so he was not in the video. Instead, the video had sort of look-a-like in it but you never see his face. In one part of the video, you see him in a chair doing 2Pac's mannerisms while talking to his mother. As the song plays, it acts out what 2Pac is saying like when he says, "it was hell, hugging my mama from the jail cell" it shows a jail cell. The video is viewable at YouTube.

The song "Dear Mama, Part 2" or "When I'm Gone Remix" is featured on the mixtape called Tupac Duets and features Eminem. The song is 2Pac rapping over Eminem's "When I'm Gone", with Eminem singing the chorus. To hear the song, you can find it on YouTube.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRDMXOyjjBA.
