Deep River Boys

The Deep River Boys is an American vocal group from the 1940s and 1950s, singing gospel and R&B. The group was Harry Douglas (baritone), Vernon Gardner (first tenor), George Lawson (second tenor), Jimmy Lundy and Edward Ware (bass). The group started at Hampton Institute in VA. Their 1948 song Recess in Heaven became their first hit. They appeared on The Ed Sullivan show made appearances for the Queen of England and President Eisenhower. They did appearances in many overseas countries were they were more popular than in their own country. The group continued to tour into the early eighties. There is only one surviving member of the group. Jimmy Lundy lives in Portsmouth, Virginia. There is a new CD release on the market called "London Harmonies".
