Deputy White House Chief of Staff
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Deputy White House Chief of Staff is the top aide to the White House Chief of Staff, who is the senior aide to the President of the United States. The Deputy Chief of Staff usually has an office in the West Wing and is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the White House bureaucracy, as well as such other duties as the Chief of Staff assigns to him or her. In some administrations, there are multiple deputy chiefs with different duties.
Joe Hagin holds the post of Deputy White House Chief of Staff for Operations, responsible for the day-to-day running of the White House.
Karl Rove holds the post of Deputy White House Chief of Staff for Strategic Planning and Senior Advisor to the President.
Joel Kaplan currently holds the post of Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy in the administration of President George W. Bush.
- Bradley Whitford portrayed Deputy White House Chief of Staff Josh Lyman in the fictional Jed Bartlet Administration on the multiple Emmy Award winning television drama The West Wing. Josh Lyman seemed to be most responsible for political affairs, liaisons, and operations, and was the only person referred to as Deputy Chief of Staff during his series (although his full title — Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Planning — suggests that he was not the only Deputy).
- Chad Lowe portrayed Deputy White House Chief of Staff Reed Pollock, serving under Chief of Staff Thomas Lennox and President Wayne Palmer on the multiple Emmy Award nomination television drama 24. When Pollock believes the President is unfit to handle a national crisis, Pollock conspires to assassinate him by planting a bomb.
