Devitt Insurance

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Devitt Insurance can trace its origins to 1836 when Thomas Henry Devitt established a name in the shipping industry and founded the famous Orient Line.

Following the success of Orient Line, subsequent generations of the family moved into marine insurance.

In 1936, the Devitt name was established as a motorcycle insurance broker, following the innovative idea to sell motorcycle insurance via motorcycle dealers.

This unique scheme known as Devitt DA (DA stood for Dealer Association) meant that customers could buy their motorcycle and then ride away the same day secure in the knowledge they were fully insured - a scheme that still operates successfully now.

In 1993, Devitt launched its direct operation, enabling customers to purchase insurance over the phone.

Devitt look after the insurance interests of over 130,000 customers and in 2003 were bought by Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc.

Today, Devitt has over 350 employees that operate from premises in Romford, Essex and Ipswich, Suffolk. They have expanded into other areas of Personal Lines insurance, including car insurance, home insurance and commercial vehicle insurance. A UK based company, Devitt has all its call centres within the UK.
